A big blow to the liquor sellers in Kerela as the Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the state government to make its new liquor policy into a law.
In its proposed liquor policy the state government has decided to shut down all liquor stores in the state apart from 5-star hotels in aim to make Kerala an alcohol-free state in next 10 years.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front government has decided not to renew the licenses of 418 bars which were closed since April 1 and also 312 functioning bars will be closed down by March 31, 2015.
The government will issue a notice to hoteliers excluding the five-stars to shut their bars by September 12.
