The annual Amarnath Yatra begins on Friday with first batch of 7000 pilgrims started their journey from Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.
Amid tight security the pilgrims will cover about 45 km distance from Pahalgam and 13 km distance from Baltal route with chanting of ‘Bam Bam Bole’ to the holy cave of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas.
State police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will ensure security of the pilgrims in this 55 day high profile Yatra.
From this year the pilgrims have to register with proper documentations with the police before begin their journey. Health certificate is also mandatory before preceding the journey.
“We have turned back over 4,000 pilgrims who were either without registration permits or had permits for a later date,” DIG Police central Kashmir Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba said.
