In the latest developments in the migrant crisis, the first boats carrying migrants from Greece have arrived in Turkey. This move is seen as a part of an European Union plan that aims at ‘easing mass migration to Europe.’
Of all the 202 people who departed, most of them are Pakistani nationals. The deal consists of each such Syrian migrant to be returned to Turkey.
Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister, Volkan Bozkir said, in his statement to the local media, that ‘no Syrians had been sent from Greece’, while the Greek officials stated that those deported consisted of just migrants who had not sought for refuge. The deal has been viewed as a Herculean task. Meanwhile, there were also demonstrations against the deportations in Dikili, Turkey.
Migrants in Greece continue with their problems that include lack of adequate facilities and efficient asylum procedures. The nation of Turkey has signed the re-admission contracts with fourteen other nations. Also, Syrians who refused to seek habitat in Greece would be taken to habitat camps in southern part of Turkey, if sources are to be believed.
