After much-talked about prisoner swapping between Tehran and Washington, the United States and European nations have finally lifted oil and financial sanctions on Iran, ending decade old isolation and feud between the countries. Iran also received a release of $100 billion assets, after international inspectors confirmed that it kept its promise on nuclear program.
While Tehran released five “unjustly detained” Americans including Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian, Washington released seven Iranians and removed 14 names from international wanted lists.
“Iran has undertaken significant steps that many people — and I do mean many — doubted would ever come to pass,” Secretary of State John Kerry said on Saturday evening.
With the lifting of sanction, Iran was now going to re-engage with the rest of world.
