About 200 locals have blocked the traffic in the capital city of Kathmandu, apparently after facing huge queues for free transportation to get out of the city desperately. The protesters confronted police amidst the crisis and there were minor scuffles to be reported and no arrests.
Confirmed reports state that angry survivors ”broke” into government offices in Dolakha district to demand relief supplies be provided to them at the earliest. The nation’s Prime Minister Sushil Koirala was ”confronted” by the angry mob who were desperate for the relief facilities. Many survivors gathered in front of the prime minister to request to water, food and tents. The Nepalese government machinery, meanwhile, has acknowledged “weaknesses” in the aid operation and have promised to work quickly regarding the same.
Meanwhile, Britain’s foreign office has confirmed the death of a non-resident Briton, due to the earthquake. The American embassy is reported to have said that 500 Americans remain unaccounted for, as there remains no clue about their existence. A man pulled out from the debris by the French Rescue force states that he had drank his own urine for more than three days to stay alive.
Not many survivors have been found and hopes are diminishing of rescuing more survivors from the rubble. An official said that the government had turned away offers of more rescue forces and other experts. Meanwhile, authorities confirm the death toll to have reached 5000 with PM Koirala further saying that the eventual death toll could actually double.
