The country of Senegal is all set to send around some 2,100 troops, in support to the Saudi-led campaign in Yemen, according to a statement released by it’s foreign ministry to the media.
Mankeur Ndiaye, the Foreign Minister, stated that the nation had been responding to a Saudi request to help secure and fortify the border that the kingdom shares with Yemen. The Saudi foreign minister,meanwhile, said that his country was considering temporary peace truces to allow for aid and other necessities be delivered in specific and remote regions.
A Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out air strikes since the past several months against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who had taken complete control over the capital city, Sanaa. Sensing the intense situations, President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi had fled and hence, the aim of the Saudi-led campaign is to restore him back.
More than 1,200 people have been killed and 300,000 have fled their homes in the past six weeks, according to the reports of UN, owing to the intense struggles. Warnings have been repeatedly issued stating that the nation of Yemen stands on the verge of facing a total, severe humanitarian crisis.
On Monday, apparent air strikes were reported at the airports in Sanaa, in Hodeida in the west, and in the southern city of Aden, prompting straight and strong criticism from the UN.
