Scotland has decided to stay with UK as they voted for “No” to independence. Over 55% Scots voted to reject Alex Salmond’s separatist campaign and to remain in the 307-year-old amalgamation with UK.
The much anticipated result to decide Scotland’s fate has come out early this morning with “No” to independence gets overwhelming majority. With 26 of 32 districts reportedly voted for ‘No’ to independence.
British PM David Cameron congratulated the people of Scotland for outstanding result and promised of more power to the Scotland.
“The people of Scotland have spoke and it is a clear result. They have kept our country of four nations together” Cameron said.
“I am a passionate believer in our United Kingdom. The people of Scotland have spoken and it is a clear result,” Cameron said, adding, “This referendum has stirred strong passion.”
Accepting the defeat, Alex Salmond said, “I accept that verdict of the people and I call on all of Scotland to follow suit in accepting the democratic verdict of the people of Scotland.”
“We have seen a scare and a fear of enormous proportions…at the heart of the Westminster establishment as they realised the mass movement of people that was going forward in Scotland,” he added.
“Today of all days, as we bring Scotland together, let us not dwell on the distance we have fallen short; let us dwell on the distance we have travelled,” Salmond said.
