US President Barack Obama has strongly warned to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic terrorist outfit Islamic State of Iraq and Levant Syria (ISIS).
In a TV address to the American people on the 13th anniversary of 9/11, Obama said that US will not get engaged into another war in Iraq, but will haunt down the terrorists who threaten America.
“This is a core principle of my presidency — If you threaten America, you will find no safe haven,” Obama said.
Condemning ISIS’s act of executing two American journalists, President Obama, whose father was Muslim, said US was not against Muslims and did not believe that ISIS represent Islam.
“ISIS is not ‘Islamic’. No religion condones the killing of innocents. And the vast majority of ISIS’s victims have been Muslim. And ISIS is certainly not a state. It was formerly al-Qaida’s affiliate in Iraq. It is recognized by no government, nor by the people it subjugates. ISIS is a terrorist organization, pure and simple,” the US President said.
Washington is planning to send more military advisers to Iraq to help Iraqi government to fight against Sunni extremists.
“It will take time to eradicate a cancer like ISIS. And any time we take military action, there are risks involved — especially to the servicemen and women who carry out these missions,” he said adding, “steady, relentless effort to take out ISIS wherever they exist, using our air power and our support for partner forces on the ground.”
