As a government shutdown enters in its 10th day, House and Senate Republicans met on Thursday to resolve America’s debt-limit and crisis.
President Barack Obama, Vice President Biden, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, White House chief of staff Denis McDonough and deputy chief of staff Rob Nabors met 20 House Republicans, including Speaker John Boehner for about 90 minutes.
“After a discussion about potential paths forward, no specific determination was made. The President looks forward to making continued progress with members on both sides of the aisle,” the White House press-release said.
The statement also added that Obama’s aim to raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government, remains intact.
Reportedly Republicans offered to move a temporary increase in the debt ceiling to solve the crisis.
Republicans term it as “a very useful meeting”.
“It was clarifying, I think, for both sides as to where we are,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said.
