A massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hits Iran-Pakistan border areas on Tuesday evening killing several people and injuring many.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) the epicentre of the quake was 86 km from Iranian city Khash near Pakistani border. The quake lasted for almost 40 seconds.
The tremors were also felt in northern parts of India and other gulf countries.
“Today evening at 4.14 pm there was an earthquake. The epicentre is in Iran-Pakistan border. The magnitude is 7.8. Entire North India felt the quake,” Dattatreya, head, seismology, India Meteorological Department (IMD), told IANS
“It was the biggest earthquake in Iran in 40 years and we are expecting hundreds of dead,” an Iranian government official said on Television.
13 people including women and children were killed in southwestern Pakistan on when the region was struck by tremors from the earthquake. Five people have been injured in Iran.
