An aid worker from the United States, who was held hostage for over a year, was executed by the Islamic State militants on Sunday. The whole act was captured in a video and the footage was later uploaded online by the militant group. This video however did not show the act but a masked man is seen standing with an executed head covered in blood, lying at his feet.
Speaking in a British accent, the executioner declares that this was Peter Edward Kassig, a U.S citizen.
Kassig had been there as an aid worker and was captured by the Islamic State militants on October the 1st, last year. After being captured, the 26 year old aid worker also got himself converted into Islam and was renamed as Abdul Rahman. Despite being converted into Islam, he has been beheaded.
At this moment, Spectralhues is unable to confirm the authenticity of the video.
In the past, the Islamic State militants had issued warnings to the United States against helping Iraqi military force in Iraq and Syria. The U.S and other allies have been helping the soldiers in this battle against the militant group. Of lately, the military has been able to capture several locations that were under the control of the IS militants, including some crucial places.
This could have frustrated the militant group, vengeance of which they took on the aid worker.
Soon after the video went online, The White House issued a statement condemning the execution of PetterKassig. However, the U.S has not been able to confirm authenticity of the video.
British Prime Minister David Cameron too condemned this act of Islamic State while saying that he was horrified by the cold blooded murder and that ISIL have again showed their depravity.
Currently, the U.S authorities are working to ascertain the authenticity of the video.
If the video turns out to be genuine then Kassig will be the fifth victim of these brutal executions.
