The head of Islamic State group Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi is dead, according to the statement made available to the press.
Earlier, a Guardian report stating sources with further insights and deep knowledge of the group reported that the chief had been severely injured in a US-led coalition air strike in the previous month. According to that report, al-Baghdadi was brutally inujred at al-Baaj district of Nineveh, close to the border of Syria. It also said he had been recuperating slowly and also the fact that he was out of his daily control of the jihadist group.
Al-Baghdadi, believed to be in his 40s, had a $10 million US warrant on his head, establishing himself as the ‘most wanted’ on the Interpol list. Under his leadership, the ISIS had gained much capital and manpower and had also spread it’s empire over the other parts of Iraq.
However, ISIS also suffered a series of major setbacks in the recent months, with many of its top commanders being killed or brutally injured.
The Islamic State and it’s supporters lay in a state of shock. The death of this chief proved to be a major setback.
