The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) issued a statement stating that they executed the second Japanese hostage in their captivity, Kenji Goto, prompting several horrified reactions, with the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe himself pledging to ‘step-up’ humanitarian help to the opponents of the militants in the Middle-eastern nations, bringing the killers to justice.
The ruthless Islamic State militants, who have their empire spread on large
parts of Syria and Iraq, released a video footage which displayed a hooded man standing proud in front of Goto, with a knife pointed sharp towards his throat, followed by placing a head on the back of a human body. Reports from the Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani state it to be genuine.
This footage has been released exactly a week after the footage of the execution of the first Japanese hostage, Haruna Yukawa. Kenji Goto, 47, had been a veteran war correspondent who had been captured by the militants last October in Syria, when he had gone to seek Yukawa’s release.
Nations worldwide have condemned the execution with the American President Barack Obama criticising the militants for their ‘heinous murder’.
