Iraq Crisis: Judge Rahman executed; oil refinery captured while India attempts hard to bring back Indians

According to the latest information emerging on Iraq crisis, the Judge who sentenced Iraq’s former dictator Saddam Hussein to death was reportedly captured and executed by the ISIS militants. Eight years back in 2006, judge Raouf Abdul Rahman had pronounced death sentence to Saddam Iraq CrisisHussein. Following this order, Hussein was hanged on the first day of Eid ul-Adha on 30th December the same year.

The Daily Mail quoted the Facebook page of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, Saddam’s former deputy and a key figure among the Sunni Militants, wherein Douri posted that the rebels had arrested Judge Rahman.

The Iraq crisis is leading towards heavy burden on the oil industry. Remember, Iraq is a major oil producing nation and many other countries import oil from Iraq. According to the reports, the third largest oil refinery in Iraq too has been captured by the Sunni Militants.

Yesterday, the US secretary for states John Kerry visited Iraq amidst the crisis. Spectralhues had reported yesterday that Kerry had arrived in Iraq and was reportedly going to meet Iraq’s Prime Minister Noori al-Maliki, foreign Minister of the Iraq as well as leader from Shiite and Sunni. US is also putting pressure on Maliki as crucial towns of Iraq are falling towards the rebel sides.

After having arrived in Baghdad, John Kerry met some crucial politicians of Iraq and also vowed for an ‘intense and sustained support.’

BBC quoted Iraqi FM Hoshyar Zebari who said, ”This is our fight… but it has regional and international dimensions.”

Meanwhile Britain’s Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair had admitted removal of Judge Rahman executedSaddam Hussein was one of the causes behind the uprising.

In his column in the Financial Times on Monday, Blair argued that “non-intervention is also a decision with consequences”, citing that the “chaos in Syria” has allowed Isis – the jihadist group sweeping across Iraq – to “re-build itself.”

The Independent quoted Tony Blair by saying, “That is the point I am making. I am not seeking to persuade people about the decision in 2003. I am trying to convince them that the fundamental challenge is not the product of that decision or indeed the decision in Syria. It is a challenge of immense complexity that has not originated in anything we have done since this challenge burst fully on to our consciousness after the attacks of September 11 2001.”

India, on the other hand, is preparing to get back the Indians working in Iraq. Earlier last week 40 Indian workers were abducted by the Sunni militants. These Indians are mostly those working on construction sites there. Reports claim that these workers do not even possess passports.

The Ministry of External Affairs is dealing seriously with the matter. A pictorial tweet by MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin showed External Affiars Minister Sushma Swaraj who chaired conclave of Indian Heads of Missions in Neighbourhood.

Syed also tweeted, “Working to assist Indian nationals in conflict zone and assuage concerns of those in other areas in Iraq.”

IRAQ-UNRESTIndia has also set up a 24×7 control roon in New Delhi to respond to all the requests for assistance related to Indian national in Iraq.

Another shocking news emerging from Uttar Pradesh in regards to the Iraq crisis. News 18 reported that as per local intelligence reports, All India Shia Husaini Fund are offering Rs 40-60 lakh to young Shia boys to fight ISIS militants in Iraq. Reports claimed that forms are being sold in hostels there and boys are being persuaded for this. The police, for now are keeping a watch in these areas.
