Soon after four Palestinian children were killed in an Israeli strike while playing on a beach near Gaza City, both Hamas and Israel agreed to a five-hour cease-fire on Thursday.
The ceasefire comes after UN and other international organizations pressurize Israel in continuous nine days of fighting in which more than 220 Palestinians were killed. One Israeli has been killed in rocket attacks.
The Israeli military has announced that would stop firing from10 o’clock to 3 o’clock local time to allow residents in Gaza to stock up necessary supplies.
Hamas also agreed to stop attacks during this period.
Reacting to Thursday’s incident, the Israeli military said they were “carefully investigating” the incident “based on preliminary results, the target of this strike was Hamas terrorist operatives”.
“The reported civilian causalities from this strike are a tragic outcome,” the statement said.
