The Copenhagen police have shot dead the attacker, who had created a hullaballoo in the capital for some hours in the past. In an ambush with the police officers, the suspected attacker was killed in Norrebro.
The police had been closely observing this location in Norrebro, waiting for the occupant to return, and when he did he suddenly pulled out his gun and open fired on recognizing the police. The police counter fired, shooting him down.
The police believe that he was the person behind the two attacks that shook Denmark on Saturday, killing two and injuring three cops. The first one took place at a prestigious free speech event at Krudttonden cultural centre in Copenhagen, involving controversial cartoonist Lars Vilks. One person was killed in this attack, following which a Jewish man was assassinated and three police officers were injured near the city’s main synagogue.
The police continue to maintain high security in the country, in the wake of the attack. The Prime Minister of Denmark has condemned the attack, describing it as “a cynical act of terror against Denmark”.
