Banks in Cyprus have re-opened after two weeks on Thursday amidst tight security and restrictions.
Cyprus stock exchange however was not opened.
Large queues had formed outside banks particularly outside branches of Laiki. The Cypriot government has appealed for calm.
Authorities have imposed strict controls on transactions as a part of 11th hour bailout package.
Some of the restrictions include:
- Limit of cash withdrawals €100 per customer per day
- Limit of €5,000 on the use of credit cards abroad
- No cheques can be cashed however cheques can be deposited
- Anyone leaving the country can only carry up to 1,000 euros in cash.
The restrictions will be in place for next seven days.
