A passenger bus was attacked in the Eastern part of Ukraine on Tuesday afternoon, claiming at the least eleven lives and injuring several others, according to Reuters. Apparently, the passengers had been travelling from Donetsk, East Ukraine when the bus was targeted by rebels near a local checkpoint. Initial reports state that the bus had been attacked by the rebels by launching a shell, however, later the news was confirmed of using Grad rockets. Authorities state that the shelling had been from a distant rocket which was intended to target the troops at the checkpoint but hit the bus instead.
Though Pro-Russian rebels were blamed for the attack, a report from the militant leaders has fiercely denied their involvement.
The forces of Russia and Ukraine have been on a war ever since the past few months owing to the annexation of Crimea by Russia, last year, which further led to worsening of the relations between the countries of the eastern and western hemispheres, since the cold war.
Reports surface that the condition in Ukraine has deteriorated ever since, with more civil casualties occurring.
This is the first case of the largest loss of lives so far this year in Ukraine.
