In yet another sizzling attack, the Al- shabab militants have targeted and attacked the Garissa University college campus in the town of Garissa in the north -western part of Kenya on Thursday. The indiscriminate, wanton shooting has caused several casualties, with wounding around 65 and the death toll rising to 15.
Passers-by and other withesses report that the militants stormed the complex and mercilessly opened fire on the people. First aid and immediate hospitalization was provided to the injured. The attack has been a result of the war between two nations of Kenya and Somalia. Reporters also surface that Al-shabab, Somalia ‘ s indigenous Al- Qaeda linked group held Christian hostages to avenge the Nairobi troops warring in Somalia. Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery speaking from the town of Garissa saud that one of the gunmen had been arrested as he had tried to flee the scene. Though there have been confirmed news about shooting the guards, student casualties still remain under ambiguity.
Farah Maalim, a former Kenyan speaker condemned the attack ‘scary’, in a statement to the Al-Jazeera. Garissa University College (GUC) is the only public institution of further advanced education established and opened in the year 2011 in the region situated at about 380 km. from Nairobi, the nation’ s capital.
