More than 50 men were killed in a sudden clash that broke between the Nigerian Army and the Islamist in Nigeria, an African country.
This left 53 insurgents and sic troops dead, a spokesperson announced on Saturday.
Agence France Press reported that Defence Spokesman General Chris Olukolade said in a statement that the rebels attacked barrels and a police station in the town of Damboa in Borno state, late Friday while most of the troops were out on patrol in surrounding villages, drawing an army response.
The AFP also reported that five soldiers and one senior officer were killed while repelling the attack.
CNN reported that in addition to clashes with Nigerian troops and killings of citizens, Boko Haram — which translates to “Western education is sin” — has been connected to bombings of schools, churches and mosques; assassinations of politicians, religious leaders and others; and the kidnapping of women and children.
Along with the reports of this clashes came another news that more 60 women who were under who were under the captive of Boko Haram escaped. These 60 women got an opportunity to escape as soon as these clashes broke down and the militants went ahead.
AFP quoted Abbas Gava who said that he had received a alert from his collegues… that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home late Friday.
AFP further reported that Gava, a senior official of the local vigilantes in Borno State who are working closely with security officials, told journalists the women escaped when their captors went out to fight.
“They took the bold step when their abductors moved out to carry out an operation,” he said.
On May 16thSpectralhues had reported that more than 200 girl students were abducted by the militant group Boko Haram in Nigeria. Some girls had managed to escape and recounted the whole incident after which this abduction incident had come into limelight.
Social activist from the Bring Back out Girls movement marched to the presidential palace in Abuja yesterday. It has been more than two months since girls were kidnapped from their school dormitories in Chibok.
Since then, the activists there are constantly staging protests and trying their best to get the girls back safely.
eriaSpeaking exclusively to Speactralhues, Aisha Yesufu, activist of Bring Back our Girls Movement said: “I don’t have anything on that. Just heard the news so would not be in a position to comment on the 60 women that escaped.”
Ogunwole Abdulazeez Olanshile, a writer from Abeokuta city of Nigeria exclusively told Spectralhues,“It counts 85th day now that the girls have been abducted by a group called boko-haram who are fighting in the northern area in Nigeria requesting Muslim schools that’s why we believe that they’re Muslims but now they’ve been abducting Muslims citizens and bombing everywhere.”
Meanwhile, Vanguard an African newspaper reported that CONCERNED Muslim Professionals, CMP, an Islamic group, yesterday, called on the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, AlhajiSa’adAbubakar III, to engage members of Boko Haram Islamic sect in discussions.
It also reported that The President of the organisation, Alhaji Mohammed Saidu, in a letter, entitled “Echoing the message of General Yakubu Gowon (rtd): A call for action on Islamic leadership of Northern Nigeria,” said there had been no visible or invisible effort by the Muslim leadership to convene such engagements at even a single location, let alone covering the whole troubled region.
