Fire broke out in the ‘Potu’ or kitchen area of the famous Tirupathi Temple in Andhra Pradesh early Friday morning at 8:10 am as the workers made the famous Tirupathi ladoos in the kitchen.
Officials cite the reason being overheating of the kitchen area which also had scores of amounts of stored ghee that further spread the fire.
The crowd began to panic as huge clouds of smoke began to arise from the temple as they were queuing for the temple entry.
Three fire tenders were called to the area to control the fire and soon subdued the fire.
The kitchen was run by Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, whose executive officer Sambasiva Rao, joint executive officer Srinivasa Raju, and Chairman Chadalavada Krishnamurthy reached the location and promised to modernize the kitchen to prevent such future accidents.
The accident has not reportedly caused any casualties but has accounted for a loss of about 20 Lakhs.
