CBI arrests Peter Mukherjea in Sheena Bora murder case

The CBI arrested Indrani Mukherjea’s husband and former television honcho Peter Mukherjea on Monday, in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case that has been transferred to the agency.

A CBI spokesperson was quoted by the PTI as having said that Peter Mukherjea’s name had surfaced during its probe in the case and that “he has been arrested”, while refusing to disclose any more information regarding this arrest. Sources in the CBI alleged that he had some more insight into the crime which he had not shared with the Mumbai police, according to a PTI report.

It is being alleged that the CBI has found some inconsistencies in Mukherjea’s statement because of which he has been arrested.

“I will be extremely shocked if the news about his arrest is true,” Peter Mukherjea’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani told PTI, while adding, “I contacted him through messages and my last contact was well past 7.30 PM when he informed me that he was being questioned by the CBI and that he would contact me later.”

Reportedly, the CBI also quizzed Peter Mukherjea’s son Rahul Mukherjea on Monday.

Peter Mukherjea is the husband of Indrani Mukherjea, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. Indrani Mukherjea was arrested by the Mumbai police in the case after her driver Shyamvar Rai confessed to the police. Rai was later arrested for his role. Apart from the two, Indrani’s second husband Sanjeev Khanna was also arrested by the police.
