The diesel version of Renault Fluence costs Rs.12.99 lakh in Chennai (ex-showroom) and the petrol version costs Rs.14.40 lakh.
The diesel version is less expensive than the petrol version as the company takes care to explain.
According to Mr.Sudhir Rao, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Renault India, the company has priced the diesel version lower because customers opting for diesel versions look for lower cost of ownership and lower operating costs as well.
But this concession to the customers preferring diesel versions involves a tradeoff: the diesel version of Renault Fluence has a 1500cc engine whereas the petrol version has a 2000cc engine.
Marc Nassif, Managing Director, Renault India, said: “It is a proud moment for us at Renault India to launch not only the Renault Fluence, our first built-in-India car, but also to introduce the Renault brand to our Indian customers”. According to Mr.Nassif, India, Bfrazil, and Russia are the three key countries in Renault’s strategy for international development.
Renault plans to have 40 dealers all over the country by the end of 2011 and 100 dealers by the end of 2012. The company plans to introduce 5 cars by the end of 2012.
