The Italian company Piaggio has launched its much awaited popular Vespa scooter in India on Thursday. The Piaggio Vespa LX will cost Rs. 66,661 (ex-Maharashtra) in India.
On the launching ceremony of Vespa, Ravi Chopra, Chairman & MD, Piaggio India, said, “With its India foray, Piaggio will create an exclusive, premium segment. The price tag will be secondary as the pride of ownership will be foremost.”
The scooter has specially designed and developed for Indian roads with new 10PS 125cc engine which delivers 60 kilometers per liter at a new factory in Baramati, Maharashtra. Piaggio has used a variomatic transmission, drum brakes and trailing link front suspension exclusively for Indians consumers.
Piaggio India is planning to tie-ups with 50-dealer network across 35 major Indian cities to sale its products like Vespa, Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera, Moto Guzzi and Scarabeo.
Launched in 1946, the Vespa has been a best seller in Europe and featured in more than 200 Hollywood movies.
