Maruti Suzuki has entered into an agreement with Fiat for purchase of diesel engines to power its diesel cars.
Maruti is going to procure 100,000 diesel engines per annum from Fiat.
According to R.C.Bhargava, Chariman, Maruti-Suzuki the demand for its diesel vars has been rising because of rising cost of petrol but the company’s capacity to produce diesel engines was not adequate to meet the demand. Given the overall rising cost of manufacture, Maruti recently raised the prices of its diesel cars to take advantage of the rising demand for the diesel versions.
The deal with Fiat is going to help Maruti Suzuki increase the production of the diesel versions of Maruti Swift – one of the most popular models from Maruti.
