In a major setback to the Congress government in Banglore, the Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 100 seats in the Bruhat Banglore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) polls. The Congress party, which was otherwise expected to emerge victorious, could only manage to secure 76 seats, JD(S) won 14 seats and the remaining 8 were secured by independent candidates.
The BJP’s victory in the civic polls indicates a huge defeat of the Congress government in Banglore and its Chief Minister Mr Siddaramaiah.
For the BJP, it is a hat-trick. Earlier this month, BJP had won the civic polls in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Following the victory in Banglore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Thank you Bengaluru! My gratitude to people & congratulations to Karnataka BJP leaders & workers for the great BBMP election results. After MP & Rajasthan, BBMP poll results complete a hat-trick of wins for BJP. This is a win for politics of development & good governance.”
