Barmeshwar Gupta, a private school director of Jashpur district was run over by Vikramaditya Singh Judeo by his four wheeler. The attempt of murder was due to a dispute over a piece of land on Monday. Vikramaditya, who is the younger brother of Raja Ranvijay Singh Judeo, member of Parliament and King of the former royal family of Jashpur, ran away from the scene of crime.
The Jashpur police have lodged an FIR against Vikramaditya Judeo and have booked him for attempt to murder. According to the police, the school director Gupta had bought a piece of land from Judeo’s family about ten years ago. He was planning to construct a school on the land.
“While Gupta was inspecting the land, Vikramaditya approached him in his SUV-Pajero accompanied with two others and misbehaved with director declaring that the land belonged to his family and he should stop construction work. It turned into a heated argument and Vikramaditya started beating him after which he fainted. Threatening Gupta in a fit of rage to crush him down his vehicle furious Vikramaditya ran over the SUV on him and fled the spot,” Jashpur Kotwali police said.
The locals strongly protested in front of Judeo’s palace leading to a Jashpur ‘Bandh’. It is for the first time in history of Jashpur that the locals were seen irritated against the royal family. Heavy security was deployed in the region to prevent any trouble.
The Superintendant of Police, Jashpur, G S Jayaswal said,”Gupta was referred to Ranchi Apollo Hospital in Jharkhand and was in a critical condition.”
“In 2009 and 2010 he was accused of abduction, forcefully keeping two minors, a girl and a boy as slaves in confinement in the palace and used to beat and abuse them. Several Sections under IPC were lodged against him. More details will surface soon after further investigation,” he said.
Vikramaditya had contested and lost the assembly election as an independent candidate from Jaijaipur in 2013.
