In the aftermath of its activist getting arrested for killing rationalist and prominent Communist Party leader Govind Pansare, demands for a ban on the right-wing organization Sanatan Sanstha are being made. The Congress and NCP have come out demanding an immediate ban on Sanatan Sanstha. The NCP, in fact, blamed the former home secretary for not imposing a ban on the organization and going soft on it.
“UPA government is criticised for not accepting the state government’s request to ban Sanatan. But if people like Singh sit on the file, the decision cannot be taken,” said NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik, on Tuesday, while blaming former home secretary R K Singh, who now happens to be a BJP MP in Lok Sabha.
The Congress-NCP government had in 2011 called for a ban on the right-wing organization and had proposed the same to the center. However, Mr Malik said, R K Singh, who was close to the BJP delayed the decision.
The organization is much in the limelight ever since its activist has been arrested by the police, who then claimed that journalist Nikhil Waghle was their next target.
Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan called for a ban on the organization for its activities and threats it has allegedly made to the journalists. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant condemned Shiv Sena stand against the ban. Shiv Sena had initially taken a stand against the demands for a ban on Sanatan Sanstha.
On Tuesday evening, a news feed From NDTV quoted Goa BJP legislator Vishnu Wagh telling the channel that Sanatan Sanstha is a terror group and that he urged the Modi government to ban it.
