Air India crisis continues. The latest in the saga is that almost 100 AI pilots had reported sick on Monday night and the number is expected to touch 250 by today. This has resulted cancellations of international flights and delaying domestic flights by almost 16 hours. The strike has mostly affected on Air India’s international operations as the summer holiday season begins this week.
This proxy strike starts after the AI pilots meeting with AI management and aviation ministry failed on the topic of training for the Boeing-787 Dreamliner on Monday night. Earlier the Supreme Court give green signal to the AI management to send equal number of pilots from both Indian Airlines and Air India for training on the Dreamliner.
The aviation ministry said the strike is “completely unjustified” and asked the pilots to return to work immediately or else they would face action.
Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh is very angry on this issue and said, “There are certain ways of even going on strike. The pilots may have grievances but they should have spoken to the management, me, other well wishers.”
