The enormously famous, talented and au courant Radio Jockey Jeeturaaj recently interacted with Spectralhues. This interview was taken during Enriching Minds, an interdisciplinary educational event, presented by the Arts Association of Ramnivas Ruia Junior College.
RJ Jeeturaaj, welcome to Spectralhues. How did you become a Radio Jockey?
It was god’s will, as I keep saying. Nobody knew this, not even me. I never knew that Jeeturaaj is going to be a Radio Jockey or is to be a Radio Jockey. So, to be or not to be was a question.
Tell us something about Radio Jockey and how has this profession changed you as a person?
It is great; Radio Jockey is one of the newest professions that the country has seen. So, radio is only going to increase. You know, the Government of India might just sanction the third phase, which would mean radio will go to the nooks and corners of India. We’ll have so many more FM Radio stations, so many more job opportunities, so many more RJ’s and so many more wonderful opportunities for growth. I love radio!
Oh, this profession changes me every day. I never know what I am going to do tomorrow. Every day the responsibility keeps on increasing; I become so much more careful, so much more sensitive and so much more cautious. And therefore in life, I never say anything in a flippant manner. And if I say something I apologize before. Like when I was cracking a joke, I first apologized and then cracked one. So, every day I am improving as a person.
PM Modi is excellently giving importance to radio through his show ‘Man Ki Baat’. What are your views on this?
How sweet, isn’t it? I am so happy, you know. We obviously listen to our honourable Prime Minister whenever he is on Man Ki Baat because it goes through our radio station also. We all listen to it very carefully. In fact, when he did it for the first time we had also said that hey, now our lovely Prime Minister is also an RJ Prime Minister. So, this is a really good work and I am absolutely happy.
Jeeturaaj, what are your thoughts and views on philanthropy?
Philanthropy in India is at its infancy. Actually, not even in its infancy. We need our children, parents, teachers and educationists understand the relevance of philanthropy. This morning on my show we sighted an example of a kid who was beaten upto death by a teacher because he couldn’t pay his fees on time. If somebody could have been able to pay his fees then he could have lived. We need to surely understand the relevance of philanthropy and need to spread this. People like me have its responsibility which we will do.
How according to you, has the radio maintained its strength despite digitalization?
Digitalization is only helping the cause of radio. Like initially – say three years ago- if I did a radio show, only the people listening to radio could hear it. But today, I have the significance of putting one of the best links on www.radiomirchi.com, twitter or Facebook. So, many people listen to it. Oh, digitalization is only helping radio. It isn’t taking the glories away.
Jeeturaaj, today you’re such an eminent RJ, widely known for your show on Radio Mirchi. What is your message of wisdom for budding RJ’s, who look up to you as their role model?
I don’t know whether I am that big; I don’t know whether they look up to me as their role model. I don’t want anyone to look up to me as their role model because each one should have their own roles and they themselves should become models of their roles. Aspiring radio jockeys, please come and meet me if you think I am of your any help in your radio jockeying career. Please feel free to get in touch with us. We’d love to share whatever thoughts we have. We’d love if you become great radio jockeys. Life is so wonderful and we’ll be so happy if we could help.
