After month-long speculations Infosys today finally announced Vishal Sikka’s name as the Chief Executive Officer. The company also announced that executive chairman NR Narayana Murthy along with executive vice-chairman S Gopalakrishnan will step down on Saturday. Rohan Murthy will also step down on Saturday.
Vishal Sikka will be the first ever external CEO of India’s second-largest IT services provider. The biggest challenge Sikka will face as CEO is likely to be the leadership void which has been created following series of resignations by senior executives.
Infosys Chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy came back last year from retirement to help the company, however, his tenure was controversial as Infosys loss significant market share as well as many senior executives left the company with high dissatisfaction.
Investors were also pressurising the management to announce change of guard.
The 47-year-old former executive board member of SAP and noted global face in the software industry, Vishal Sikka will take charge of Infosys from August.
“Humbled to lead @Infosys an iconic pioneer in IT. Looking fwd to learn & work w/ infoscions & global clients on breakthrough innovation,” Sikka reacted on tweeter.
Infosys President U.B. Pravin Rao has been named the new chief operating officer.
