Amish Tripathi is one of the best-selling authors in the country, having not only national fame but also International acclamation for his Shiva trilogy. However, now that his next book, Scion of Ikshvaku is in the market, a new controversy has taken roots.
The online selling rights have been found in a fix ahead of the controversy with Amazon and Flipkart.
WestLand Ltd, the publisher of the book has very forcefully towed Flipkart to the Delhi HighCourt, over “alleging that the ecommerce company is violating copyrights and IT Act by selling the novel on its platform.” As quoted in TOI.
Thereby WestLand explained that it had signed a two month contract exclusively with Amazon, there by Flipkart proving to be an incessant trespasser.
The story was no different when it was Flipkart’s turn to put a feather in their hat at the time of Chetan Bhagat’s book Half Girlfriend headed by Rupa Publications.
Flipkart has yet denied the allegation, saying “Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. The matter is sub judice before the Honourable Delhi High Court, which on 30 June 2015 declined to pass any restraint order against Flipkart India or any of the sellers on the sale of the said book.”
“There is no interim order and the court did not stay Flipkart from selling the book but just asked it to reply by August 4,” said a lawyer related with the case. However, Westland’s lawyer said the company can still seek compensations and damages.
