Surprising indeed! RBI Governor not the highest paid authority in Central Bank

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Raghuram Rajan is by far the most powerful person at the Central Bank. But his monthly emoluments are less as compared to the other three heads.

Surprisingly, there were three other heads who have higher monthly emoluments than that of Rajan, viz. Gopalkrishna Sitaram Hegde (Rs. 4,00,000) who has been serving as the principal legal advisor (does not have the basic pay or the dearness allowance included in the earlier mentioned sum), Annamalai Arappuli Gounder (Rs. 2,20,355) and V Kandasamy (Rs.2,10,000).

The published emoluments of Alpana Killawala, the RBI spokesperson who is also the principal advisor in the department of communications at the RBI was paid higher than that of four deputy governors and 11 executive directors.

The 23rd Governor of the RBI, who assumed the office on September 4, 2013, graduating with a degree from IIT Delhi, IIM-Ahmedabad and a PhD from the MIT Sloan School of Management, draws a “monthly emolument” of Rs. 1,98,700, according to the latest details published by the Right To Information Act.

The emoluments include a basic pay of Rs. 90,000, dearness allowance of Rs. 1,01,700 and “others” of Rs. 7,000.

It cannot be considered that the above three heads are still with the central bank, according to the latest available public figures published by RBI on its website under the Right To Information Act.

The above packages have been made public by the central bank on its official website.
