Punit Renjen to become the new CEO of Deloitte, replacing Barry Salsberg

There is another reason for us, Indians, to raise a toast in the Economics and Commerce sector. Punit Renjen, on Tuesday, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the US-based accounting giant Deloitte’s global operations, thus becoming the first Indian-origin person to head a ‘Big-Four’ audit firm.

Deloitte is one of the “Big Four” professional services firms along with PwC, EY, and KPMG is headquartered in the United States. It is widespread over 150 countries,  including India.

“I am honored to have been elected as Deloitte Global next CEO,” Renjen said in a statement.

A statement from Deloitte, which itself was all praise for Renjen, said, “Renjen’s leadership appointment is part of a rigorous and comprehensive nomination and member firm partner ratification process that occurs every four years and includes all member firms of the Deloitte worldwide network.”

Punit Renjen, belonging from Rohtak, Haryana, replaced the former CEO Barry Salsberg with a whooping lot of 98% of votes, thus clinching the position of being the Global Chief Executive Officer and joining the bandwagon with Indira Nooyi, Satya Nadela and Anshu Jain, who have made to the top posts at multi-billion dollar global corporations like PepsiCo, Microsoft and Deutsche Bank, respectively.

Renjen, who is serving Deloitte for the past 27 years, was born and brought up in India and holds a bachelor’s degree with honors and a master’s degree in management from Willamette University, US.

Renjen’s initial schooling was done at Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh after which he left for the US to pursue higher studies.

He has a number of leadership positions acclaimed to his account, including chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting LLP. In addition to being chairman of Deloitte LLP, he currently also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte Global), and as chairman of the Deloitte Foundation Board of Directors.

Renjen will start working in his new uniform from June 1, 2015 for the Delloitte’s new fiscal year.
