Non-bailable Warrant Against Vijay Mallya and Four Others

Non-bailable warrants have been issued against Vijay Mallya, Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines, its Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and two others because of their failure to present themselves in the court of a special magistrate in Hyderabad in a case filed against them by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Four cheques worth Rs.10.5 crore issued to GHIAL by Kingfisher towards user charges of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad (Hyderabad) were dishonoured by the banks. Consequently a case was filed against Kingfisher Airlines in August 2012 by GHIAL which operates the Airport.

The cheques relate to the payment of the monies collected on behalf of GHIAL (under an agreement between GHIAL and Kingfisher Airlines) by way of user development charges from the passengers using the airport.
