A day after the Election Commission asked the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry to put hold the notification of the new gas price, the Union government has deferred the gas price hike till the elections are over.
The Aam Aadmi Party which has earlier lodged complaint that the move to hike the price violated the Model Code of Conduct has welcomed government’s decision.
“Thank you election commission for saving the people of India from huge price rise that would have happened if gas prices had increased from 1 Apr,” Kejriwal had tweeted.
Replying to a query in Supreme Court over petitions against the UPA Government’s decision to allow Reliance Industries to increase the gas price, the government on Tuesday informed that it will not take any decision on the gas pricing issue till the Lok Sabha polls completed.
The Oil Ministry was set to revised the price of natural gas from $4.2/unit to $8/unit from April 1.
