eBay’s PayPal head David Marcus is set to join Facebook and lead the messaging products.
After acquiring messaging service WhatsApp for $19 billion, this news also stunned the market. Under Marcus’s leadership PayPal has emerged as the popular transaction mode for eBay.
According to Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan, the new vice president of messaging products, Marcus will lead the Messenger service within Facebook’s social network as well as the free Messenger mobile app except WhatsApp.
“I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty again attempting to build something new and meaningful at scale,” Marcus said on Monday.
Marcus said his decision to join Facebook was influenced by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg who “shared a compelling vision about mobile messaging.”
