Finance Minister P Chidambaram reassured investors and said that Food Security Bill would not affect the current fiscal deficit.
“Fiscal deficit will not go beyond 4.8 per cent of GDP,” Chidambaram said on Tuesday.
On continuous rupee fall, finance minister said, “We hope to be patient and rupee will find its appropriate level.”
The rupee has fallen to a record low of 66 against US dollar on Tuesday.
On Monday Lok Sabha passed the Food Security Bill. Sonia Gandhi’s pet project Food Security Bill is to provide cheap food grains to almost 82 crore people in India.
