The biggest release at the third quarter of this year is hitting theaters this weekend. And, the world premier lights up the Hollywood indeed. Based on initial prerelease tracking, box-office analysts were expecting Thor to gross a healthy $75 million in its domestic launch far more than its past installment.
It has earned $133.4 million in less than a week at overseas and the rising interest in North America, tracking now suggests Thor 2 will open notably higher in US markets also. It will have a gala release at over 305 IMAX screens in US and Canada.
At overseas, the film will be grossing huge including China, where the movie is releasing this Friday. Analysts predict the gross to be above $300 million by Sunday – a mammoth success indeed that would be.
The appeal of the movie lies with movie-goers of every quadrant. Interest is high among younger females for a superhero film. Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are also a good reason for pulling crowds along with Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba.
Thor 2 takes place one year after the events of The Avengers. This time Thor reunites with Jane Foster (Portman) and tries to save his planet from the enemy. Thor also forms an uneasy alliance with his adoptive brother, Loki. The unusual plot is getting high among audiences globally.
