Summer season of TV has almost reached its end and the beginning Fall season is nigh, which leaves the thirty-one days of August in between. Comparatively, August is a dry month for series lovers but there still is returning and new content to look out for. Here are the four shows that are worth checking out this month:
Halt and Catch Fire: Season 3
Halt and Catch Fire is a period drama created by Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers which premiered in 2014. Seen from the perspective of a group of fictional characters and startups, the show offered a glimpse into the rise of the computer and technological industry during the 80s. Halt and Catch Fire received generally positive reception from critics and viewers. It is particularly praised for its visual style and dramatic character-moments backed by a stellar cast lead by Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy. Apart from a couple of images which were released online, there has been no other news about the new season’s plot. But considering how the show’s second season was a great improvement over the first and the upcoming third season will hopefully have more of its iconic retro-goodness to offer to the viewers.
Season 3 of Halt and Catch Fire will return with another ten episodes on August 23rd
The Get Down
Much like HBO’s Vinyl which aired earlier this year, The Get Down is a musical period-drama which will make its debut on Netflix. The series is created by Stephen Adly Guirgis along with Baz Luhrmann who is popular as the director of movies like Australia, The Great Gatsby, and The Red Curtain Trilogy with Sony Pictures Television producing the show. The show will feature a mostly unpopular cast such as Shameik Moore and Justice Smith along with Jaden Smith and Giancarlo Esposito who are the highlights of the cast. The Get Down is set to explore the rise of hip-hop and the end of disco music in New York during the later 70s and also deal with the personal lives of the characters.
The first six of The Get Down will be available on 12th August.
The Strain: Season 3
The Strain is a supernatural drama created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan based on a trilogy of novels written by the duo themselves. It premiered in 2014 telling the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather who, with his team, tries to fight off a viral outbreak exhibiting features of vampiri-sim. Carlton Cuse, who was previously associated with Lost, serves as the showrunner and executive producer of The Strain. The show stars the likes of Corey Stoll, David Bradley, and Sean Astin and features music composed by Ramin Djawadi. The Strain has received generally positive reception from critics and viewers alive for its first two seasons and has been nominated for and won several awards.

Better Late Than Never
Better Late Than Never is an American reality-travel show produced by Universal Television for NBC. It is an adaptation of a Korean series called “Grandpas Over Flowers”. The show will follow four veteran celebrities from America – William Shatner, Henry Winkler, George Foreman, and Terry Bradshaw as they travel through Asia with Jeff Dye in search of new experiences. “Grandpas Over Flowers” was an immense success in Korea and has produced several spin-offs and remakes. It is expected that Better Late Than Never will become just as popular.
