Deliberately kept slow, Director Ribhu Dasgupta’s ‘Teen’ is a test for your patience if you expect thrillers to be only racy.
Co-produced by Sujoy Ghosh (‘Kahaani’), comparisons become inevitable as this movie is also completely shot in Kolkata and two of the important leads star here too. But unlike ‘Kahaani’, ‘Teen’ is predictable. I guessed both the twists (pre-interval and climax). However, the build-up to the suspense is commendable and the director quite smartly resorts to a non-linear narrative halfway through the film.
Even when you feel that you know what’s coming up next, you wonder if you are going to be right. Not completely engaging which a thriller ought to be, ‘Teen’ is also a drama about a grandfather desperately and helplessly looking for justice. An official remake of Korean film ‘Montage’, both the script and plot are good.
Amitabh Bachchan is simply excellent, be it his body language or dialogues. Even when the movie falters at times, he doesn’t. Nawazuddin Siddiqui gives a restrained yet consistently good performance. Vidya Balan who is clearly in an extended guest appearance is okay here. Sabyasachi ‘Feluda’ Chakraborthy smokes Charminar here too. A fine actor like him could have been given a juicier role.
It’s a shame that last week’s release ‘Housefull’ is minting a lot of money while well-made movies like ‘Phobia’ and ‘Teen’ get poor response at the Box Office.
