Movie Review: Split

Cast: James McAvoy, Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley, Haley Lu Richardson, Jessica Sula

M. NightShyamalan’s ‘SPLIT’ is a psychological thriller. It is an intriguing movie with an uncanny concept. The Split features James McAvoy as an eccentric person with 23 distinct personalities. It all turns around the theory of multi-personality disorder, which is also known as dissociative identity disorder. We do have people around with this disorder, it arises out of severe trauma during childhood, unsatisfied desires, and repetitive emotional and sexual abuse. The movie opens with a party at the mall, where Casey, Marcia, and Claire are present. Casey is introverted and a psychological combatant. Due to her parents death, she lives with her uncle. She is constantly abused by her uncle since childhood.

The three girls come across this quirky guy when they are coming from the party. Unfortunately, he kidnaps them and hides them in an unknown basement. They neither know the reason why he kidnapped them nor any way to escape. Gradually, they discover that Kevin has 23 personality disorders. The place is completely shut and the girls toil harder to get out of it. Dr.Karen Fletcher is a psychiatrist who helps Kevin with his disorder. In the process of escaping, the girls split apart and no one knows where the other one is.

The movie grips the pulse of the viewer minute by minute. The movie gets even more engrossing when the psychiatrist visits Kevin’s place and gets to know the fact that he has been kidnapping girls and murdering them. Finally the horrifying moment of the movie arrives, when the 24th personality is unleashed. It is ‘The Beast’. Dr. Fletcher is speechless to see the dreadful beast and on the other hand, girls are still trying to get themselves out.

Why did the beast emerge? What is the reason behind the Kevins disorder? Did the girls succeed? Grab some time to watch this exceptional thriller and get your questions answered!!!!
