Movie Review: Force 2

In Force (2011), we saw a vengeful drug dealer terrorize an entire police unit and their families and John Abraham as ACP Yashvardhan packed some solid punches in this intense action thriller. Five years later, Abraham is back in his tough-as-nails policeavatar in Force 2, this time with Sonakshi Sinha for company.As with so many sequels, Force 2 too seems over familiar and stretched to the point where you frankly couldn’t care less.

A series of assassinations of RAW agents in China including that of agent Harish who is Inspector Yash’s(John) best friend, sets Yash and agent KK(Sonakshi) on a trail to catch a mole in the Indian Embassy of Budapest. The mole, Shiv Sharma(Tahir Raj Bhasin), a low level employee at the embassy is handing out information about the under cover agents, consequently leading to their killings. The breathtaking scenic beauty of Budapest, shown as a hotbed of espionage in numerous movies, is shot in all its glory.

The good thing about the movie is that it’s fast paced with some perfectly timed action and chase sequences. The familiarity of the plot is masked with the well executed high octane action.The climax sequence is shot like a shooter game which is experimental and refreshing.

John Abraham’s cardboard expression does not seem out of place in these movies and can even be taken as intensity. The bulging biceps and hot bod of course helps. Bhasin, once again after Mardaani, plays the bad guy with panache. His is the most interesting role in the film and he does complete justice to it. The weakest link of Force 2 is probably Sonakshi Sinha. Her character is under written and more of an arm candy in the guise of feminism.Mouthing some generic dialogs about women’s capabilities and their positions in the society, Sonakshi spends most of her screen time hiding behind her male partner and being clueless about what she is supposed to do.
