It is since few years that the online film festival has achieved a stage of robust popularity. Not only in China, had this year’s Unifrance’s MyFrenchFilmFestival.com had a record – breaking 4 million screenings. Chinese platforms Youku and Tudou registered 3.5m screenings for the online film festival.
At their 4th edition running Jan 17 to Feb 17, MyFrenchFilmFestival.com have almost quadrupled their viewing. A record indeed.
French cinema export agency Unifrance, which organises the event, reported that the online film festival generated 4 million screenings. They had 750,000 in 2013 and 1.3m in 2012. So, the viewing has increased exponentially in the last two years.
The month-long initiative featured 10 features and 10 shorts. These movies, not very widely sold worldwide, were featured on 20 partner platforms as well as the dedicated MyFrenchFilmFestival site. It attracted some 100,000 subscribers this year.
The best international director’s prize which was decided by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Marco Bellocchio, Anurag Kashyap and Frédéric Fonteyne, went to Edouard Deluc by Mariage a Mendoza.
The viewer’s choice prize, decided by 30,000 online votes went to Samuel Collardey’s Little Lion in the features category and in the short film category Amélie Harrault’s short Mademoiselle Kiki and the Montparnos.
