Just finished watching Niraj Pandey’s much awaited second film ‘Special 26’. The expectations of another great film from Niraj Pandey were high, after his debut film “A Wednesday“; he has not disappointed the moviegoers. He could have made a brilliant film out of this thrilling story had he not included some unnecessary parts in the film.
If ‘A Wednesday’ proved a cult film in the beginning of his career, then certainly ‘Special 26’ made him a great director of promise.
After ‘Kahaani’ and ‘Talaash’, ‘Special 26′ is another impressive thriller made in Bollywood in recent times.
‘Special 26′ is made of a real-life jewellery heist in 1987, where 26 fake CBI Sleuths raided a famous jewellery shop one afternoon in March, rob the entire shop and vanished. Taking some cinematic liberty Niraj and his team made a beautiful watchable heist movie. Niraj deserve applauds for bringing 1980s on screen with commendable detail of that era.
Along with great script, the movie is enriched by power pact performances from its lead casts. Akshay Kumar as the leader of the daredevil gang, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill’s mind-blowing performances, Manoj Bajpayee’s show stealing act as CBI officer Wasim Khan and cat-and-mouse game between the system and cons are some of the highlights of the movie.
But Special 26 comes with lots of flaws too, especially scenes between Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal was unnecessary and annoying.
However “Special 26? keeps the audience engaged throughout and it is indeed a delight to watch.
