Jean Luc Godard has been a person to look up to for any film aspirants around the world. From his 1960 French New Wave debut “Breathless,” to his most recent endeavor, the narratively incoherent “Goodbye to Language” – the legend has maintained his unique standards of maintaining the status quo.
In 1978, Godard gave 14 one-hour long lectures on the history of film at Concordia University in Montreal. Though it was published in French, it was never available in English.
This year, Caboose, an independent film book publisher, has released Godard’s “Introduction to a True History of Cinema and Television,” – the collection of the 14 lectures in English.
It is a 560-page volume that includes 82 illustrations by the director himself and an essay written by scholar Michael Witt. The book is available at the publisher’s website.
