Jeremy Scahill’s documentary Dirty Wars has been making news since days. The journalist has chased down the hidden truth behind America’s expanding covert wars.
In course of making the documentary Scahill met the survivors of secret hit squads in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia – and promised to tell their stories. Undoubtedly, Dirty Wars is a gripping journey into one of the most important and underreported stories of our time. And, the director of this docu, also investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill and author of the international bestseller Blackwater, has delved deep into a world of covert operations unknown to the public and that has been carried out across the globe by men who do not exist on paper and will never appear before Congress.
He has been termed as a progressive journalist or an activist. “It’s not a term I would reject in terms of my personal politics,” he says, “but I see myself as an independent journalist and my mission is to try to tell stories about real people.” Scahill signs off.
Premiered at Sundance Film Festival on 18th January 2013, the film has been featured in many a festivals and Scahill has got rave reviews and accolades. The film is scheduled for a UK release this week.
