Veteran Bollywood actor Pran has been conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2012 for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.
The 93-year-old Pran Krishan Sikand aka Pran Sahaab is the 44th recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke award. He will be given a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl.
He started his film career in 1940 o with Punjabi film Yamla Jat. His big break came in 1945 in Dev Anand’s Ziddi, produced by Bombay Talkies. He has acted in over 400 films and won multiple awards including Filmfare.
His famous movies include Madhumati, Devdas, Dil Diya Dard Liya, Ram Aur Shyam, Amar Deep, Amar Akbar Anthony, Parichay, Zanjeer, Chhalia, Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai.
He was also conferred with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2001.
