Noted Filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh dies at 49

Renowned Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh passed away today morning at his residence of a massive heart attack. He was 49.

Noted Filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh dies at 49Rituparno Ghosh started his directorial career with Hirer Angti (The diamond ring) in 1994.  He was one of the most successful Indian filmmakers who had received most number of National Awards for his films. His first National Film Award came from ‘Unishe April’. He received National Film Award for Best Direction for  Utsab and Abohoman.

Some of his popular and Nation Award winning films are: Dahan, Bariwali, Utsab,Titli, Shubho Mahurat, Chokher Bali,Raincoat, The Last Lear and Noukadubi.

His last film was Chitrangada in which he had acted and received rave reviews. Rituparno had given a new version of Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada in the film. He got National Film Awards for Special Jury Award for Chitrangada.

Rituparno  hosted two celebrity chat shows ‘Ebong Rituporno’ and ‘Ghosh and co.’  and both became extremely popular.

He was also an editor for a monthly magazine.

With his demise Bengali film industry lost an intellectual.
