Legendary singer Manna Dey remains critical

Veteran singer and musician Manna Dey has admitted to a Bangalore hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated with chest infection. He remains in critical condition.

Manna Dey celebrated his 94th birthday on May 1 and has been under medical care for some time.

One of the most popular playback singer in India, Manna Dey received Padma Bhushan in 2005 and Dadasaheb Phalke in 2007.

Manna Dey brought classical music into playback singing in Hindi movies. He has sang over 3500 songs in different languages. He was awarded with the Filmfare Life Time Achievement Award in 2011.

Manna Dey’s autobiography ‘Jiboner Jalsaghorey’ was published in Bengali 2005 and became runaway hit. Later the book was translated into in English (Memories Come Alive) and Hindi (aden Jee Uthi).
